Jolene Nelson Helm

Principal


Jolene brings over 25 years of experience in consumer & customer strategy and new business development. She has a special passion for identifying and developing new business opportunities that result in measurable business success. Jolene began her career at The Pillsbury Company. Her passion for driving business results was established early when she identified a strategic restage on a mature business that resulted in +20% volume growth and +24% profit increase. Another team she led was awarded "Top 10 Best New Item" award by Frozen Food Age for two consecutive years. She also has led the Strategic Plan development and implementation for both new and established businesses such as Green Giant, Totino's Pizza and Pillsbury Desserts & Baking Mixes.

In 2000, Jolene was selected as a full-time inter-company consultant and trainer for a corporate-wide brand strategy development initiative. In this capacity, she trained over 400 individuals; both internal employees as well as agency partners. This experience ignited a love of helping others learn and of being a "brand coach". As part of her role as the in-house consultant, Jolene worked with numerous business teams to develop their brand and customer strategies.

As a consultant, Jolene has worked with many clients across industries to develop their brand, product and customer strategies. Some examples of projects include: Brand Promise & Strategy development for the City of St Paul; new product strategy & launch plan - snacks category; product positioning strategy - dairy category; customer strategy - technology product category. Her broader strategic work includes business vision/strategy development and competitive analysis for General Mills US and International teams including Cereal Partners Worldwide. She has also been an on-site partner for the Land O'Lakes organization in many different roles. In 2011, Jolene was delighted to become one of only a handful of certified trainers in the "Blue Ocean Strategy" techniques and tools.

In 2003, Jolene started working with the Best Buy Company. She developed the customer strategy for a new and profitable customer target - small businesses. She was asked to join Best Buy full-time to continue the work. Jolene directed the efforts in developing the first ever B2B marketing capability for Best Buy. Specifically, her team developed the customer lead generation, acquisition & analytic strategy, as well as the business customer loyalty program. In her last corporate position, Jolene was part of the leadership team for Best Buy's Digital Growth Initiatives team where her responsibilities included defining and developing all aspects of the customer strategy.

Jolene has an MBA from the Carlson School of Business. Her BA degree is from Macalester College with concentrations in economics, psychology and finance. Jolene is active in her community - she currently is on the Board of Directors for Stages Theatre Company and has served as the President of the Board for Sunshine Montessori School. Jolene is married with two active children and lives in Minneapolis MN.
